About the Project
The typographic installation, "Taylor Swift Word Art," was conceived with a compelling purpose: to empower women who visit Griffith's QCAD campus, where it is prominently displayed. The installation features Taylor Swift's inspiring quotes and influential song lyrics, all designed to promote self-love, confidence, and resilience. By showcasing Swift's powerful words, the installation aims to inspire women to find their voices and advocate for themselves and others.
Taylor Swift, an influential figure in my life, served as the central focus of this installation. Her journey from a personal influence to a widely popular artist made her the ideal source of inspiration for this project.
In this project, I assumed full creative responsibility, from conceptualizing and designing the layout to crafting the typography, digitally as a stencil, and physically on the canvas. I also hand-drew and painted the installation. The empowering quotes featured are Taylor Swift's own words.
To bring this typographic installation to life, I meticulously manipulated the typography within the silhouette of Taylor Swift using Adobe Illustrator. Afterward, I utilized a projector to display the design onto a canvas, enabling me to trace it with a pencil and finally paint it using acrylics.
An interesting challenge arose during the process. Initially, the outlines weren't part of the design, but after completing the painting, the legibility of the words needed enhancement. Adding the outlines proved to be a simple yet effective solution, clarifying the intent and design.
The centrepiece of the project is a captivating painting that mirrors Taylor Swift's latest album, "Midnights," offering a visual connection to her work and persona. The typographic installation seamlessly integrates her quotes and lyrics into this thematic representation.
The "Taylor Swift Word Art" installation stands as a powerful symbol of empowerment and self-expression. It serves as an inspirational source for the women at Griffith's QCAD campus, echoing Taylor Swift's journey and encouraging them to find their own voices and agency.
